E7 Ed Klein

This week our Guest is Ed Klein from Grandfather’s Axe

Nestled in the heart of Northcote is a modernist’s treasure trove of delightful midcentury modern design. Set foot into Grandfather’s Axe, a converted warehouse bathed in natural sun light and you will feel like you have stepped back in time. Into the very best design of the modernist post war era, I don’t know about you but that excites me!

Grandfathers Axe is a slick head nod to splendid Australian and European modern interiors and applied arts. The name Grandfather’s Axe is a paradox, despite Grandfather’s Axe having had both head and handle replaced, is it still Grandfather’s Axe? Similar to the rotation of stock in their showroom and such is the conundrum when conserving and restoring notable design. As a restoration nerd I would like to acknowledge and compliment the considered and respectful approach Grandfather’s Axe take towards their restoration process.

I hope you enjoy this interesting and wide-ranging conversation with this super talented and incredibly kind modernister, Ed Klein.
